I'm sitting at the U of MN waiting for the infusion center to open. Round 2. I have been feeling strangely fine all week. Initially I had lots of extra energy from the steroids. Difficultculty sleeping yet feeling strong all day. All week I kept checking in and assessing myself--any pains, cramps, twinges, sensations. A heightened awareness of any deviation from normal. Really, I've been feeling great. I have shed a few unnecessary pounds (I don't recommend the diet), my hair is still in place, my cheeks have a ruddy (steroid) glow and I have a new sense of perspective and purpose. We had a mellow weekend with nothing to do. Waiting, watching. Monday I worked a busy 14 hr. call shift, caught a sweet baby and had lunch with a dear friend/colleague who has vast insight into grief and loss. Tuesday I saw clients in clinic, some of whom I have followed for years. Yesterday was one of the best days ever. I spent the whole day one on one with Svea, the littlest. She and I had a productive morning of story reading, bank deposit, oil change and Target run. Svea made her own withdrawal of 10 one dollar bills to spend as she liked--she purchased Lindt chocolate balls, a dog treat for Huckelberry, and a purple candle holder. Then picnic lunch in my favorite park overlooking Stillwater. Perfect temp, blue sky, cottony clouds. Monkey bars and swings. Svea remembered, "Mama this is a special day and this is the exact swing where I learned how to swing a long time ago." We picked up our CSA veggie box and Svea helped me chop all of the carrots, beets and potatoes for a delicious roasted root veg feast. While this was in the oven, we watched a new Pingu series on Netflix (a Swedish claymation). I also loved that all of my family members were engaged in their own cool endeavors too--Tim recording music with some favorite musicians in a Minneapolis studio, Jonah there with him listening and soaking up the vibe, Zeb in Seattle taking an interview tour of Microsoft and visiting with friends and family living on the the harbor, Esther at a teen girl writing/yoga day camp in Prospect Park (my stomping grounds at her age). Loving life right now and soaking it up! Today, during my infusion, I plan to kick back with Tim at my side, enjoying some oral benedryl, cheesy magazines and lemon ginger tea. Blessings abound.
